Cruck House

Cruck House

by Westwind Oak

The frame used in Cruck House combines a variety of truss types, which will enhance the varying spaces in the house. The frame includes two jointed upper cruck trusses that sit either side of the main entrance hall, with a bridge spanning between them.

This form of truss was chosen to incorporate the grand and historic form of the cruck, into the entrance hall.

____

The combination of the upper cruck and the Somerset/jointed cruck was developed as sourcing a 6m timber, with a 600mm deflection and at the required grade, was difficult within a very short timeframe.

The jointed cruck reduced the length of the required curve whilst giving the same structural and aesthetical qualities.
