Giving hope at Christmas Yeovil, Somerset
The Lord’s Larder Food Bank is a local ‘bank’ of non-perishable in life ambient food operated by volunteers from churches in and around Yeovil.
It began in a small way in 1991 when a representative of Yeovil Citizens’ Advice Bureau spoke about the need for emergency food to members of one of the churches in Yeovil. It is now supplied by over 60 local churches, 45 schools and several community groups.
Last year in 2022, over 183,000 items of food were given out via 70 different agencies to help over 9,700 local people.
At Christmas time, the charity give out special Christmas Parcels to encourage people who may be lonely or shut in, so that they can enjoy the festive period. Last year, the charity was able to give out 300 Christmas Parcels, which went to help 828 people in our local community.
To support this cause, we asked staff to donate a variety of food items that could be used in the food parcels. Thanks to everyone’s contributions, we were able to donate a large selection of goods to the foodbank, which will be distributed out to the wider community.
“Thank you very much for your generous donations, which will help a number of families enjoy something a little extra this Christmas. Please pass my thanks on to all your colleagues, it is much appreciated.”
